My first post on my official blog…this is a very big deal. In this post, you will get some background information on the person behind the title of Miss Teenage GTA 2014! 🙂
My name is Odeta, and I was born on March 27, 1996 in Kavajë, Albania. For those of you who don’t know (and not many do), Albania is a small country in Southeastern Europe, bordered by the Adriatic Sea. It’s a beautiful country, with amazing mountainous landscapes, and breathtaking beaches.
My mom, dad, brother and I immigrated to Canada one week before my third birthday, but we visit as often as we can, as all my relatives live there. Though my family has adapted to the Canadian lifestyle, we keep our Albanian culture and traditions, adding to Canada’s inviting multiculturalism.
I’m currently 17 years old. Well, 18 years old in exactly 54 days, but who’s counting? I’m a hard-working scholar in grade 12 at Maple High School, and am very excited to be graduating this June and attending university in the fall. I will be entering the field of science, in hopes to one day become a paediatric cardiologist and certified nutritionist. I know I have the determination and work ethic to achieve these goals!
I’m an extremely well-rounded person and love to try new things. I’ve been active my whole life, getting my athleticism from my parents, who were both professional athletes in the past. My mom was a star basketball player and my dad triumphed in track and field. Since I was young, I’ve been involved in almost every sport in the book- basketball, volleyball, cross country, football- I love it all! I’m currently on my school’s cheerleading team (GO T-WOLVES!), and plan to continue cheerleading in university! Sports have taught me dedication, discipline and teamwork, and have increased my strength and endurance. I wouldn’t be the person I am today without them.
I will forever have a passion for fitness and healthy living. From kickboxing to Zumba, if it involves moving, I’ve most likely done it! I pretty much live at the gym, and if there’s a soft “om” sound coming from inside my house, it’s probably me doing yoga in my bedroom.
On top of sports, I’m extremely active in both my school and my community. From being a part of my school’s student council, to being part of a student-led charity organization, I do all that I can to help out. I currently have over 160 hours of community service, and as a titleholder, I can’t wait to see the opportunities that will arise for me! When first discovering about this pageant, one of the main prizes that caught my attention was the Me To We trip to a Free The Children destination. That would be an experience of a lifetime!
I’m just a curious, passionate, adventurous girl with big dreams and big plans. I want to see everything, do everything, and grasp every inch of this Earth! I hope to travel the world one day, basking in the landscapes, cultures, people, and food. I want to seize opportunities, and live fearlessly and happily.
So now you know who I am! This is the first post of many on my journey towards the Miss Teenage Canada pageant! I’ll see you soon!
